i want bob costas' job

seriously...he must have the sweetest job ever. any cool sporting event that gets to be broadcasted by NBC...the olympics, the breeder's cup, baseball, football...whatever it is, he's there and talking about it. very cool. i want.

basically, i was sitting at the table trying to do my concrete homework this morning, and i realized how sick i was of doing all this stupid concrete calculations..or vibration calculations, or stupid shear moment diagrams..ugh. its all getting so annoying. so either actual structural engineering work isn't as stupid and annoying as these homeworks (which i think might be true...) or i need to consider an alternative career path. and since i can't be an actual professional athelete (lacking the required greatness), the next best thing has to be to stare at them all day, talk about them non-stop, and travel the world to see them perform.

but i wonder how people break into the broadcasting field....

anyway, besides that little hitch in my life, everything else is pretty cool. ultimate's awesome, and probably the only thing keeping me sane in school. that, and tv. but the tv schedule has been messed up the past few weeks (well the fox shows have been) because of the baseball playoffs. and the white sox won! wow. i'm glad i wasn't around sag, or joe, or dave, or some other sox fan who we've been making fun of for years for picking the sox over the cubs.

random fact.
the leaves change colors and fall off the trees here in cali too. the weather is still pretty mild, which is strange to me since i automatically associate changing colors and falling leaves with that autumn chill and the imminent approach of cold cold winter. when i arrived here, i was unsure about what fall would look like, but yup, there's some pretty red and yellow leaves around.

anyway, if you think of any other cool jobs that i can have..you let me know, okay?

music jackpot

wow. so itunes music store has this new section, "just for you BETA", and it is amazing. basically what it does is select songs it thinks you would like judging from what you've previously purchased from itunes. now, i haven't bought that many songs from itunes, so it doesn't have that much information go on, but most of the songs it suggests are right on the mark...actually alot of the songs it suggests, i already have. but some of them are new, and i love them!

like seriously, whoever started off that ipod --> itunes --> ipods galore (mini, nano, 10e-158 ipod) trend deserves way more than a decent paycheck. maybe some sort of world prize...not a nobel, but on the same lines of it..you know.. they pretty much revolutionized the music industry, and i love them for it.

anyway, no major news since my last random post.
its midterm time here, and the berkeley profs are mean! they assign a p-set and have a midterm the same week, in the same class. so on top of my usual p-sets, i have to do major studying for my midterms. not cool, but i'll survive.

ultimate's going well. we had our first "tournament" this past weekend. it was actually just a scrimmage at stanford against some of the regional teams (stanford, davis, santa cruz), but it was still a great time. after the games were over, we ate at this very divey bar/grill at stanford...well it was actually in the middle of the ranchy woods, and it had a creepy rabbit head on the wall with antlers glued on its head. uhh..yea, creeeepy. this weekend, however, is the real first tournament at chico. we're leaving friday night, and i am verrrry excited. yaay tournaments. and i really like (most) of the people on the team. its kind of weird, but there are defintiley some the same personalities on the berkeley team as there were on the columbia team...

okay kids, thats all for now. its tv time. this was the first week i actually had to tape one of my shows (grey's anatomy..so good!), so i'm damn glad i got the tv with the vcr!

oh yea, ps. i only have one friend named eric, and then next time we bake him a cake for his birthday, i'm going to throw it in his face so he'll remember it! haha, right, eric? jeez, i can't believe you forgot the crispy m&ms.

okay, but for real

i'm only blogging to put off studying for my midterm. its not like i have a dying urge to write anything, so the rest of this post is probably just going to be bullshit to take up the 10 minutes that i have until real world comes on, and then hoepfully after that, i can start studying again.

but sometimes you just need a break, you know?
and i find now that i'm in grad school, the breaks seem to be more frequent and longer...i never thought i would burn out from school, but i can definitely tell 4 years has taken its toll on my ability to sit down and study efficiently.

random:
well my mom's finally back from ireland! yay. that means i can talk to her on a regular basis now, without incurring massive phone charges. i was thinking today, that a lot of people think that if they end up like their mother, they've gone very very wrong. but if i end half as cool as my mom, i'll be very pleased.

more random:
i saw a kid break his leg on friday. it was gross. we were playing goaltimate, and these two boys insisted on chasing down a disc that was heading toward the bushes. and the bushes have a two-foot tall concrete barrier between them and the field, and as the boys were running full speed at the wall, one fell on the other, and crushed his leg into the wall. i remember seeing the kid turn his head around, with a blank look on his face, and then a second later just seeing his face turn into this mess of pain. poor vinny.

even more random:
tom's moving to cali! yea! i'll have another friend out here. i don't know exactly when he's moving out, but i hope he lives close to berkeley.

so i decided, hey, i'll post.

not much interesting going on in my life these days...i'm guessing such is the life of a grad student. classes are going well, although i find myself zoning out alot during the lectures, and when i'm not staring at the wall, i'm doing the crossword. so i think i should start paying attention now that midterms are coming up.

my weekend was pretty cool. the guys from the floor above, who have pretty much been the only people who we ever hang out with in this building, threw an "early 90's" themed dance party on friday night. it was AWESOME. first of all people from the building came...people that i'd never seen before...that i guess usually just lock themselves into their rooms or something, and people from the guy's classes came, and then people on the street started coming in because this dance party was so awesome! so yea, that was definitely the highlight of my weekend. oh yea, and cal won their football game, again. woo. a football team that wins! i don't even know how to react.

on a completley different note, there are a couple types of people that i hate. now, i don't dislike many people, but these people annoy the shit out of me, and i encountered them this weekend, so i just need to describe them so i can get it out of my system.

1. the kind of people who, when you're looking/reading/browsing something..say browsing through a photo album, and you make a comment about a photo, and they say, "OOOH, let me see!" okay fine, you let them see, even though you're not done looking. BUT THEN, they KEEP the album and look at the rest of it themselves. um, hello, i wasn't done with that! those people are just so inconsiderate. wait your damn turn!

2. really loud spanish people. i've noticed over the years that spanish people talk pretty loud. i remember sitting on a bus in dublin, next to some spanish foreign exchange kids, and they were sitting shoulder to shoulder, but if you were to hear them talking to each other, you would have thought they were at opposite ends of the bus they were talking so loud. and this was their normal conversation level. GOOD LORD. tone it down! we don't want to go deaf! there are these spanish kids in my class, and when we're all in the quiet computer lab doing our homework, they come in blah blah blahing super loud in spanish...ugh, it just gets to me. maybe if i could understand spanish, i wouldn't be so unnerved by it. but i took french, so there ya go.
