muesli bar disaster
so in an attempt to confirm that i do indeed possess some kind of baking ablitity , i decided i would like to make some tasty muesli (granola) bars for this upcoming tournament weekend. after mulling over several different recipe options, i chose one with the least amount ingredients, with the notion in mind that number of ingredients clearly correlated with difficulty level.
anyway, as the title implies, the result was a disaster. when i pulled the bars out of the oven, they looked on the outside toasty and delicious. however, one bite into the substance left you with a few bits of dried fruit and a powdery substance that just fell apart in your mouth; clearly my liquid binding mixture to dry mixture didn't quite make it to required ratio. although i would like to attribute this to the fact that the recipe was in metric units (mL and grams), and i've only ever baked with cups, thereby skewing my eye measurements (we don't own any measuring tools), i have a gut feeling that these results might speak to my capablities as a cook.
then again, i could aslo blame it on the fact that i neglected to put chocolate chips in the mixture, and everyone (me) knows that no chocolate --> disaster.
